Back When I Was Old!

I remember telling people 17 years ago that I was old and I had been around the block a lot of time. It gave me a sense of superiority over all those youngsters trying to tell me about stuff I knew and had forgotten 40 years before. That was back when I was very old and wise. Those were the days.

But now I have come out on the other end of the tunnel of self-proclaimed aging and am now embracing just being me! You know the person that exercises to get over stiffness and even runs a little when I am walking. My new mantra is Do it now and get it over with! The truth is old is vastly over rated and the old age card has been played by people of adult status to the point that it has no meaning what-so-ever.

My plan is to never ever, ever say it again. I am just tired to death of the conversation. I am done.

I'm just saying. How about you?

  1. I agree with you - no reason to label yourself old. I say I am platinum-haired rather than gray-haired - gives me so much more "cachet." *grins*

  2. Well, I wax and wane on this. Age is relative, so some days I'm declaring my youth, and on other days I'm claiming my experience and playing the age card. And other days I'm just too busy to even think about how old I am (until my back goes out, and then I'm suddenly feeling my age). Keep rockin' your fabulous self!

  3. I love this attitude! It's how I feel most of the time. I'm sixty-four and don't feel "old" at all. I hope to keep learning and growing for as long as I live!

    1. That is a goal worth pursuing. I am 73 and get so excited when I see something new that interests me. Isn't that wonderful?

  4. I'm older than I used to be. And much, much wiser and more content.

    1. Aren't we all! I like the "content" part the very best.

  5. I agree ... but I still ask for my senior citizen discount.

    1. Well I don't ask for the discount because all they need to do is look at me to know how old I am. I do love that restaurants have serving for seniors that fit my appetite better.

  6. I used to talk about being "old" as a joke (because I really wasn't). Then, all of a sudden, I realized that I was approaching "old" and it wasn't a joke anymore. Yikes! I don't use the term any longer either.

    1. Exactly! That is what I am talking about!

  7. I always say "senior" sounds better when paired with "discount."

I was in this new age type store which called it a wisdom discount. I gagged.

    1. I agree but I always wonder why they are giving ME a discount...I don't need it and wouldn't be better if they just charged everyone less?

  8. When I began blogging almost 12 years ago I made many younger friends. Then I moved--two friends are around my age; the rest are in their 30's and 40's.
My mother always told me (when I was an adult obviously) that younger friends keep you vital, and she remained vitally involved and youthful until she died at 86
Last week a friend in her 30's came to visit me. It's fun seeing her on facebook with her new friends from here.
We're all going to die anyway so we might as well enjoy ourselves and though I have spent too much time time this year talking about my bronchial problems I generally would rather not talk about aches and pains

    1. That is why I enjoy Women of Midlife so much. Even though I do not suffer from the angsts they are experiences at their age, I can relate and even, in some instances add a few words to the conversation.

My daughter just came of age this last week and now she can join in that same conversation. It does not seem possible but there it is!

Be well PIA. I check on you. :)
